Thoughtful, personal funeral ceremonies shaped with care

A funeral is never just an event to get through. It is a moment of gathering, remembrance and farewell. It gives family and friends space to honour the life of someone they have loved, to tell their story, to acknowledge grief, and to begin the work of saying goodbye.

As an independent celebrant, I work with families to create funeral ceremonies that are personal, dignified and deeply human. Each ceremony is shaped around the person who has died, their character, relationships, humour, achievements, struggles, loves, values and the mark they have left on others.

Some ceremonies are quiet and reflective. Some include laughter, music and vivid stories. Some include prayers, hymns or blessings. Others are entirely non-religious. Many sit somewhere in between. My role is not to impose a fixed style, but to listen carefully and help create a ceremony that feels honest, fitting and true.

You have choices

A funeral ceremony can take place in a crematorium, cemetery chapel, woodland burial site, natural burial ground, church, village hall, garden, community venue, hotel, pub or another place of personal significance.

You may already know exactly what you would like to include. Or you may be unsure where to begin. I can help you think through the shape of the ceremony, including music, readings, poetry, prayers, personal tributes, symbolic actions, silence, or contributions from family and friends.

A celebrant-led funeral gives you freedom to remember someone in a way that reflects who they really were. That might mean a formal and traditional ceremony. It might mean something simpler, warmer and more conversational. It might mean a celebration of life at a later date, separate from a private cremation or burial.

What matters is that the ceremony holds the person at the centre.

How I will support you

I will meet with you, usually online, by phone or in person where practical, to hear about the person who has died and what you hope the ceremony might express. I will ask questions gently and carefully, helping you gather memories, details and stories.

I can write and deliver the eulogy, or support a family member or friend who wishes to speak. I can suggest readings, poems, prayers, blessings, music or symbolic rituals where these would be helpful. I will liaise with the funeral director, crematorium, burial site or venue, so that the ceremony runs as smoothly and calmly as possible.

Above all, my aim is to create a ceremony that feels truthful, compassionate and beautifully held.
